Experimental architecture, simple and circular construction, building with existing structures
Nils is a founding partner of CITYFÖRSTER architecture + urbanism and managing partner of the office in Hanover. His focus is on experimental planning and construction, simple construction methods and building with existing structures. Nils develops projects with a holistic and solution-oriented approach to climate-friendly construction – from concept to detailed structural implementation.
Nils studied architecture at Leibniz University Hannover and the Oslo School of Architecture. He has won numerous prizes in international and national competitions and has realised follow-up commissions.
The projects in which Nils played a leading role have received numerous awards. He was awarded the BDA Lower Saxony Max 45 Young Talent Award for the 'Wohnkrone' project. The Recyclinghaus project was shortlisted for the Lower Saxonian State Prize for Architecture 2020, was a finalist for the German Sustainability Award 2021 and has received numerous other awards, including the special award for sustainability at the German Facade Prize 2020.
Nils Nolting is in demand as a guest speaker for universities, industry and professional associations on the subject of sustainable construction. Since 2024, he has been Professor of Building Construction at HAWK Hildesheim, Holzminden, Göttingen.
Nils sees simplicity, reduction and sufficiency, as well as the avoidance of grey energy in the manufacturing process of buildings, as key to climate-friendly construction. The reuse and transformation of existing structures, buildings and materials are particularly important in this context.
Experimental approaches, from concept to detail, are essential for the further development of the profession. Through research-based design and construction, Nils aims to contribute to a climate-friendly society with CITYFÖRSTER.
