Jakub Schumacher

cand. Urban Design

Jakub is currently completing his Bachelor's degree in Urban Design at Jade University of Applied Sciences, which he is expected to finish in summer 2026. His bachelor's thesis, Transformation of a Car-Oriented Suburban Center into a Resilient Mixed-Use Urban Fabric – An Urban Design Proposal for Glinder Markt in Glinde, explored strategies for transforming existing urban structures and adapting suburban environments to contemporary social, ecological, and spatial challenges. The project focused on the redevelopment of a car-dominated center into a resilient and vibrant urban
district that combines diverse uses, strengthens public space, and promotes sustainable urban development.
Throughout his studies, Jakub developed a strong interest in working with existing urban structures and in the transformation of neighborhoods and cities. He is particularly interested in how urban environments can be adapted to changing social and environmental conditions while preserving and enhancing their local identity. His academic work reflects a commitment to creating sustainable, socially oriented, and context-sensitive urban concepts.
To gain practical experience before beginning his master's studies, Jakub is taking a gap year and completing two internships in the field of urban planning and urban development. He has already gained professional experience at NWP Planning Consultants, where he became familiar with planning processes and interdisciplinary approaches to urban and regional development.
Jakub's personal interests lie in the development of innovative and site-specific concepts that combine sustainability, social responsibility, and long-term urban resilience. He is particularly motivated by projects that address the transformation of existing neighborhoods and explore new possibilities for creating livable and inclusive urban environments.
